Dec 18th, 2022 / Approximately 100 of the 535 audio files that represent the Lohe I Ka Leo project have been cleaned up to remove background hiss and were adjusted for optimal volume. They were also converted from very large AIFF audio files to MP3 files so they can manageably be used in the database. Each audio file was also meta-tagged to include unique identifiers and ownership details within the files. They have been uploaded to the database and are available at their respective Nā Kumu Hula profile pages.
Nov 28th, 2021 / All scanned files from both Nānā I Nā Loea books have been uploaded to the database and are now available in the online database.
Sept 10th, 2021 / Audio files are tested and conversions form AIFF files to MP3 files start. Some of the Nā Kumu audio files have been uploaded to the database.
August 18th, 2021 / Editing, proof reading and converting to plain text the scanned OCR pages have started on the first book of Nānā I Nā Loea.
August 1st, 2021 / First book Nānā I Nā Loea portraits uploads to the newly created database have started.
July 19-20, 2021 / Keiki Hulaʻs film presentation featured a story about the cassette tape audio recordings from the Nānā I Nā Loea Hula recording sessions that make up the Lohe I Ka Leo project. View video here
May 26th, 2021 / The portraits from the The first book of Nānā I Nā Loea have finished editing and were formatted for database use. Editing included adding metadata per portrait that contain Nā Kumu Hula name and KPCAS ownership credentials.
May 18-20, 2021 / Scans of the second book of Nānā I Nā Loea took place and finished. This scan captured 55 portraits, 285 pages of scanned text and clocked in at 1.1 GB of data.
March 25th, 2021 / Moʻolelo ~ Story Pages of the first book of Nānā I Nā Loea were scanned in 4 parts - a JPEG and PDF for a hard copy of the scanned page and an OCR scan to a Word file to convert the printed text page into plain text for database use. The 4th file was an searchable PDF file. 357 files were obtained that came in at 356MB of data.
March 22nd, 2021 / Scanning Nānā I Nā Loea Hula Book One Begins. The first book of Nānā I Nā Loea was scanned with a newly purchased large format scanner. The portraits of the Nā Kumu Hula scanned during this session and amounted to 73 portraits that measured to 1.3GB of data.
